DesensitizationGeneral factsHyposensitization is the logical follow-up from an allergy test in which responsible allergens have been identified. According to our experience, around 75% of animals profit from the therapy. The therapy solution contains allergens identical to those used in the Polycheck-Test. It is recommended to include only those allergens which are present in the sick animal's environment for several months of the year such as house dust and storage mites, grass and weed pollen. Tree pollen is only found during 1-2 months, and the hyposensitization to mould fungi is controversial. Flea allergens and allergens from other stinging insects (specially in horses) cannot be used for hyposensitization. We offer a therapy solution for Malassezia allergy. Therapy solutions with pollen allergens cannot be mixed with mite allergens. In this case, two therapy sets are needed. The solutions are produced individually for each single patient. In accordance of the policy in European human medicine we use maximum 6 allergens or allergen groups per treatment set. Hyposensitization must continue for many years if not for the life of the animal because symptoms reoccur when the therapy is terminated. Recommenced therapy trials are not always successful and might not be reproducible. |
